La propoli viene prodotta alla fine della stagione estiva, quando le api si preparano per l’inverno. Alcune api hanno il compito di recuperare la resina dalle piante, trasformarla in propoli ed impiegarla come materiale per costruire e rinforzare gli alveari. Le resine vengono trasformate in propoli grazie alle secrezioni digestive delle api.
La propoli ha diversi usi in medicina, è un antibiotico naturale, antibatterico e antivirale. Possiamo dire che è utile soprattutto in inverno per rinforzare il sistema immunitario e combattere i diversi virus con cui entriamo in contatto (data la tendenza ad andare in posti chiusi e affollati). Stimola il metabolismo, utile in caso di disturbi metabolici, funge da antinfiammatorio.
Alla propoli vengono attribuite attività antiallergiche, dovute alla combinazione di polline presente nella sostanza e principi attivi. In pratica nel caso di allergia ai pollini si abitua il corpo al contatto con i pollini in modo da non patire troppo l’allergia in primavera. Ovviamente è meglio consultare un medico perchè la quantità di polline presente nella propoli può essere eccessiva a seconda del grado di allergia.
La propoli contiene diversi principi attivi molto importanti che fungono da antibiotici naturali (flavonoidi, polifenoli, aldeidi, acidi, enzimi, steroli, alcoli), in più contiene vitamine del gruppo B, vitamina A, calcio, ferro, rame, zinco e altri micronutrienti “meno importanti”, grassi e aminoacidi. Ogni 100g di prodotto abbiamo solo 15 kcal.
Come assumere la propoli
In commercio troviamo diversi prodotti a base di propoli. Troviamo gli spray, le caramelle, le barrette o le gocce (preferibile). E’ importante scegliere i prodotti con più percentuale possibile di propoli, il più naturale possibile. Da evitare, o comunque consiglio di consultare il medico, se si hanno problemi di allergia alle api o ai pollini.
Per prevenzione ai malanni stagionali si consiglia qualche goccia di propoli 2-3 volte al giorno, magari insieme ad acqua calda e miele. Per guarire da tosse e mal di gola si consigliano 20-30 gocce 2-3 volte al giorno, sempre insieme a miele e acqua calda. Per guarire da ferite o scottature bisogna applicare su una garza sterile qualche goccia e poi disinfettare la ferita.
Gli effetti collaterali possono rivelarsi in disturbi gastrointestinali e dermatiti.
