Il personal trainer è un lavoro molto importante ma ad oggi è un mestiere abbastanza sottovalutato. Il personal trainer nella visione comune viene confuso erroneamente con l’istruttore di sala pesi. Nel luogo comune peggiore viene visto come un egocentrico pompato che chiacchiera con le belle clienti, che segue solo quelli grossi e rifila a tutti schede rigorosamente in 3×10, con annesse diete composte da gallette, riso e pollo. In verità questo non ha niente a che fare con il personal trainer, o meglio, non dovrebbe, perchè purtroppo nei luoghi comuni un filo di verità c’è, e nell’ambito del fitness c’è molta ignoranza, inutile negarlo.
Il pezzo di carta è una garanzia, altrimenti ogni lavoro si può svolgere solo con la passione e da autodidatta? Si può essere ottimi piloti anche senza patente eppure la legge prevede un esame teorico e uno pratico per togliere qualsiasi dubbio.
Deve essere grosso o l’importante è che sappia la teoria?
Non ha senso questa distinzione, credo che un buon personal trainer deve saper fare certamente gli esercizi, se non si è mai allenato non potrà essere un buon insegnante, ma non deve essere necessariamente un bodybuilder. Non si giudica un libro dalla copertina, certo, il suo aspetto fisico però ci può dare una mano. Voglio diventare un bodybuilder? Sarà più facile che un istruttore bodybuilder mi possa dare una mano, perché lo fa già sulla sua pelle. Voglio un fisico atletico? Un personal trainer con un fisico atletico potrà aiutarmi di più rispetto ad uno grosso o molto magro.
Insomma, l’aspetto fisico è un buon biglietto da visita. Deve essere un appassionato, deve aver voglia di fare e voglia di far fare. Non serve uno che vi gridi dietro ad ogni ripetizione, quella è caciara inutile.
Un altro punto importante è il seguente: il tuo personal trainer diventerà un tuo amico! Passerete molto tempo insieme, scegliete una persona a cui fa piacere passare del tempo con voi, e voi dovete provare piacere a passare del tempo con lui.
Altra distinzione importante: c’è differenza tra chi lavora in presenza e chi lavora on-line a distanza. Le due cose difficilmente coincidono.
Personal trainer in presenza
Ritengo sia l’ideale, ci sono accorgimenti e situazioni che solo dal vivo si possono notare ed attuare. Cercate quello con le caratteristiche che più vi piacciono. Sono alla ricerca di un personal trainer che possa portarmi in gara? Ne cercherò uno con determinate caratteristiche. Sto cercando uno che mi sproni e mi motivi costantemente? Cercherò uno che mi stia addosso e mi inciti. Bisogna valutare anche il carattere e il modo di fare, non solo la preparazione. Personalmente io non sono un “motivatore”. Credo che ognuno di noi debba trovare la motivazione dentro di sé. Il caos e la caciara, le grida, non fanno parte del mio essere.
Voglio allenarmi da solo con il personal? Cercherò uno che lavori prevalentemente con lezioni individuali 1:1, voglio risparmiare qualcosina e allenarmi in un ambiente simile alla palestra? Cercherò un personal trainer che lavori con piccoli gruppi. Sono un atleta di basket e vorrei una preparazione adatta? Magari sarà più utile cercare un personal trainer specializzato nel mio sport. E così via, credo che il concetto sia chiaro.

Se siete alla ricerca di un personal trainer che vi possa seguire da casa, con videochiamate o con feedback quotidiani e continui, scegliete il migliore di questa categoria. E’ sciocco affidarsi ad un personal trainer di presenza e poi pretendere un servizio extra di video, assistenza ecc.. Se per qualsiasi motivo non riesco o non voglio farmi seguire in presenza, sceglierò un personal trainer specializzato nell’online.
Vedo troppi personal trainer che provano a fare tutto, un po’ in presenza, un po’ online, poi diventano esperti crossfit, poi pugilato. Mi rivolgo a chi sta studiando o a chi svolge questa professione che è la più bella del mondo: scegliete cosa volete fare, e fatela al meglio!
Gli studi di personal training
Da qualche anno sono presenti sul territorio gli studi di Personal Training. Sono degli studi veri e propri, possono essere degli appartamenti o delle sale ristrutturate a dovere, con più o meno attrezzi. Il personal trainer gestisce lo studio come meglio crede, c’è chi vuole uno studio elegante con più o meno attrezzatura, c’è chi vuole uno studio più spartano e privo di attrezzi, c’è anche chi lavora prettamente a corpo libero e con uno studio di piccole dimensioni riesce comunque a lavorare. Insomma c’è ampia scelta. Le dimensioni vanno dai 50 m2 ai 150 m2. Solo nella città di Torino si contano circa 60 studi!
Gli elementi che hanno portato allo sviluppo di queste attività sono: la voglia dei personal trainer di mettersi in proprio e iniziare un percorso imprenditoriale, la voglia di far valere le loro idee e la voglia di dimostrare che la loro preparazione conta (cosa molto limitata nelle palestre dove l’istruttore deve essere simpatico e della preparazione la maggior parte se ne frega).
Aggiungo anche che in molti c’è la voglia di dissociarsi dal mondo delle palestre pubbliche, un mondo dove il cliente è trascurato, dove molti vanno per passare il tempo e non per allenarsi e le leggende metropolitane prevalgono su tutto. Aprendosi uno studio proprio, il metodo di lavoro viene deciso dal professionista che è artefice del proprio destino, se è bravo lavorerà, se non è bravo chiuderà.
Come funzionano questi studi di personal training?
Gli allenamenti vengono svolti singolarmente seguiti dal personal trainer oppure in piccoli gruppi. Solitamente si prende appuntamento, perché lo spazio è piccolo e si preferisce seguire e non trascurare i clienti. I costi sono più alti delle palestre pubbliche, si parla di 30-40 euro l’ora.La differenza tra le palestre pubbliche e gli studi di personal training è notevole. Il cliente o i pochi clienti sono seguiti passo dopo passo, gli allenamenti saranno soggettivi e personalizzati. E’ un modo diverso di fare palestra, utile per chi non vuole perdere tempo in palestra e vuole risultati!
Quando andiamo ad allenarci in una palestra vediamo una figura costante in sala pesi, solitamente è un ragazzo giovane ben piazzato muscolarmente, con una maglietta che lo differenzia dagli altri clienti. Per comodità questo soggetto oggi viene chiamato Personal trainer, ma non è così.
C’è differenza tra i due ruoli, non che crolli il mondo se chiami “personal trainer” il ragazzo che sta ore e ore in palestra a guardare i clienti del centro che entrano e si allenano ma è giusto spiegare le differenze.
Chi è l’istruttore?
Un istruttore è colui che dedica le sue conoscenze a tutti i clienti di un centro fitness. Lui è a disposizione di tutti i clienti, dispensa consigli, il suo compito è evitare infortuni, essere cordiale, far sentire a proprio agio il cliente che si accinge ad utilizzare gli attrezzi. Ci pare ovvio che avendo molte persone da guardare, non per sue colpe ma, per ovvi motivi, gli allenamenti in sala pesi non possono essere personalizzati più di tanto.
L’istruttore non può prendersi il rischio di insegnare un esercizio complicato correndo il pericolo che il cliente si faccia male. Perderebbe il posto di lavoro, o almeno prenderà una bella lavata di capo. Risulta quindi comodo stipulare delle schede non troppo complesse, esercizi prevalentemente su macchinari guidati, eliminando quegli esercizi che necessitano di uno sguardo in più. I carichi saranno a discrezione del cliente e per questo nella maggioranza dei casi inadeguati e non allenanti.
Chi è il personal trainer?
Il personal trainer è un professionista che mette a disposizione il suo tempo, le sue competenze e i suoi studi, ad uno o pochi clienti per volta. In palestra oppure in studio gli allenamenti dunque, saranno personalizzati! Il cliente avrà una figura tutta per sè, la quale controllerà l’esecuzione degli esercizi, stipulerà e cambierà l’allenamento in base alle esigenze del cliente, programmerà la stagione in modo dettagliato, il tutto al fine di arrivare agli obiettivi chiesti inizialmente.
Sono semplicemente due figure diverse. Nelle palestre funziona in un modo, si entra, ci si allena come più ci sembra giusto, si fa una chiacchierata con gli altri clienti, doccia e via. Con il personal trainer si ha poco tempo a disposizione (un ora, che per allenarsi è il tempo giusto), quindi le chiacchiere sono limitate e l’allenamento sarà intenso riducendo i tempi morti. Con questo non voglio che passi il concetto che nelle palestre si perde solamente tempo e con il personal trainer gli allenamenti sono fatti in stile militare. E’ importante però capire le differenze.
C’è chi sa allenarsi già bene perchè e ha delle buone conoscenze, quindi opterà per una classica palestra con istruttore e chi necessita di una figura che lo segua durante il suo percorso, e opterà dunque per un personal trainer.
Quali sono i costi?
Ovviamente c’è una differenza di costo. La quota mensile di un centro fitness è di 50-60 euro al mese, non possiamo pensare che con gli stessi soldi possiamo avere una figura dedicata solamente a noi. Un personal trainer in media chiede al cliente 40-50 euro L’ORA! So già cosa state pensando, è eccessivo, è una truffa. Vi fermo subito.
Nei 40 euro che il professionista vi sta chiedendo, bisognerà tenere conto delle spese di trasporto per raggiungere il luogo di allenamento (magari solamente per un ora), l’affitto del luogo di allenamento (molti pagano un affitto alle palestre per poter lavorare), il tempo dedicato al cliente (che è il suo effettivo guadagno), la sua preparazione e i suoi studi, la partita Iva, non dimentichiamolo. Inoltre il personal trainer, non lavora solo nell’ora dedicata al cliente, ma lavora anche a casa, preparando gli allenamenti e programmando quelli futuri.
Insomma, ognuno potrà trarre le sue conclusioni e scegliere ciò che più serve al proprio corpo e alla propria mente.
