La soia è ricca di sostanze nutritive. E’ utile ad abbassare la glicemia (gli zuccheri nel sangue), migliora la salute cardiovascolare, abbassa la pressione cardiovascolare. Una quantità pari a 25 grammi al giorno può aiutare a ridurre il colesterolo cattivo LDL. Sono molto più utili gli alimenti a base di soia come tofu e tempeh rispetto agli integratori o gli alimenti modificati (ricchi di zuccheri, Sali, grassi e additivi). La soia inoltre è ricca di estrogeni, per questo migliora la fertilità femminile.
Proprio per questo ultimo punto ci sono molti dibattiti. I semi di soia sono particolarmente ricchi di fitoestrogeni, che sono molto simili agli estrogeni ma più deboli. Allo stesso tempo sono efficaci in caso di squilibri ormonali e fungono da modulatori, limitando la produzione di estrogeni in caso di eccesso e aumentandone la produzione in caso di carenza.
Abbiamo visto come gli estrogeni da una parte facciano bene e abbiano molte funzioni, mentre dall’altro un eccesso può essere dannoso, soprattutto per gli uomini. C’è da dire che l’eccesso di qualsiasi cosa è negativo! Alcuni studi dimostrano come un eccesso di isoflavoni di soia portino addirittura al cancro al seno o all’endometrio. Secondo altri studi gli isoflavoni di soia porterebbero anche ad un rallentamento della tiroide.
Molti altri studi non hanno riscontrato aspetti negativi, e altri studi invece dimostrano come gli isoflavoni di soia portino addirittura ad una protezione contro alcuni tipi di cancro. Come sempre quindi bisogna leggere le notizie con le pinze e non farsi trasportare.
Gli aspetti negativi sono principalmente due: – i semi di soia sono solitamente modificati geneticamente e questo può portare ad avere meno nutrienti. – I semi di soia contengono composti difficilmente digeribili che riducono la capacità di assorbire le vitamine.
