La Maca è una pianta erbacea originaria del Perù e della Bolivia. Cresce ad altitudini molto alte, intorno ai 4000-5000 metri, infatti è tipica delle Ande. E’ una verdura come i cavoli o i broccoli ed è molto utilizzata nella cucina peruviana. Ci sono diversi tipi di Maca, con colori diversi, ad ogni modo si utilizza la radice, che viene essiccata, bollita e mangiata oppure trasformata in succo.
La Maca ha proprietà nutrizionali energizzanti, migliora la fertilità, la memoria, rinforza le difese immunitarie, agisce sull’osteoporosi e protegge la pelle dai raggi UV. Non ci sono molti studi, non è certamente una pianta magica come alcuni vogliono far credere.
